I have a frigidaire model # FAS155K1A1, window a/c unit. Unit is six to seven years old. I bought it brand new. The problem I am having is that when you turn unit on, it will cool the room to the set temperature. Once the temperature is reached, unit automatically slows fan speed, and turns off compressor, as normal. Unit used to shut-off if room temperature was maintained, and it would turn back on if room got warm. It performed like this was since unit was new. Now, When room starts getting warm, again, compressor will not kick back in all the time, just the fan runs. I need to shut-off unit, remove plug from wall for a minute, then plug back into outlet and turn it back on and off a few times to get compressor to engage to cool the air. Some times the compressor will kick back in for a few times, but then fan will just run without compressor engaging. Even if I lower the temperature setting on front of a/c unit, the compressor will not kick in till I unplug unit, and plug back into outlet, then turn it back on.. What could be wrong, PC Board(s), thermostat, control box??

On top of the compressor is a cover. Remove that and examine the small round overload that mounts on top. If it looks a bit burned on bottom it probably is going bad but ain't went completely out yet.overload 1.jpg

would this even cause the unit and fan to NOT turn off when room is at the desired temperature setting? Could a lightning stike cause this/these issues. We have had numerous severe storms over the last two weeks. Unit worked fine in the beginning of the warm season, and these issues described started over the last few weeks, and appear to be getting worse?

If your unit got an electrical surge/spike or sustained a direct hit from lightning then I would say that could most likely be the probo.

I am not real sure if it was struck by lightning, but I wish to somehow do process of elimination, before I buy a whole bunch of parts until I find the problem as we all know this can be quite costly. I will call my insurance agent in the AM and tell him what I think happened, and maybe he will authorize a technician to come out and look at it if it is covered on my policy. I appreciate all the information thus far, and appreciate anything further any one can provide to me. My luck usually is not that good, and I wish to repair this unit if I can, wether my home owners insurance pays or not. Once again thank you.
