I have the GE GSXF39 softener, and have rebuilt the head, replacing the rotor valve, venturi, all gaskets and the motor. The machine works well enough and shows no error codes BUT I'm going through about 80 pounds of salt every month. I originally had set the hardness at 55 but have reduced it to 30 which is in keeping with the numbers used in this town.

How much salt should I expect to use in this machine? Since late December I have gone through 8 20KG bags, thats about 170 pounds. At 7 bucks a bag this is getting expensive.

Thanks for any help.
