Default Gas Dryer Intermittently Shuts Off - Burning Smell?

Hello,
I have a Maytag Neptune gas dryer (model # MGD5700TQ0), that has started having an odd problem. Every once in a while, when the dryer is started up, it will run for a few seconds, then shut off. This is followed by a fairly strong burning smell - not a "fried electronics" smell , but possibly lint? It usually happens after the dryer has been used a time or two, and things have heated up.

I took off the dryer's back, and cleaned out all the lint, as well as from the lint chute. The problem still persists.

I though that maybe it was one of the thermostat / thermal shut-offs (snap discs), but I don't think that's the case. I hooked up a couple of Digital Multimeters to the two discs (one on the blower housing for the air coming out, and the other on the box for the air going in), and ran the dryer until it did the shut-off thing, and neither disc read as an "open".

Is it something related to the burner, possibly? My next step is to get to the burner assembly, and thoroughly give that area a good vacuuming.

If anybody has any ideas as to what it may be, I'd love to hear it - this dryer is only three years old, for crying out loud!!

Thanks!

-Phil
