Default dryer heats but runs for a short time
Model Number: LER5636EQ3   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

This was given to us recently she said it didnt heat but we replaced the heating element first and so it heats but only runs for a short time before shutting itself off. When you press the start button it makes a buzzing sound. What could it be?

Well we havent heard any reply yet, my husband has taken it completely apart and cleaned it out, it was pretty dirty and hes tested the motor which on this site not sure says its suppose to test at one level but a book we have on appliance repairs says to test at another level our motor tests right on. So we are kinda stuck on what it is.

We've had our Whirlpool dryer for a couple of years. It has been in storage for the last six months, we plugged it in yesterday and it started doing the same thing. It will run for about 45 seconds and then it stops. After waiting five minutes it will start again, run for a few seconds and stop.

My dads says to check the hi-low thermostate well he says thermostate but my husband is checking this one first to see if the problem. My dad says it cant be the motor if its running and stopping after a few minutes of heat.

suckleh0nny,

Most likely the problem is a bad motor. To confirm it you can run a simple test. It should be done right after the dryer stopped and were not able to restart it normally.

Open the door. push and hold the door switch, push the start switch and turn the drum manually from inside of the dryer. If it would start then the motor is 100% bad and has to be replaced.

- The part number for the motor is AP3094245

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dryer Model LER5636EQ3

frijol10,

In order to provide most accurate advise we need the complete model number of the dryer.

aganja,

Can you be more specific on the problem? What is the complete model number of the unit?
