Model Number: TEDX640 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
Model TEDX640 PQ1
My wife checked the clothes and noticed that the colthes didn't seem to be drying, closed the door and pressed the start button - and nothng. I tested for power right up to the motor and everything looked o.k., so I replaced the timer switch, but it still doesn't run. So far I have checked for continuity on the dryer thermal fuse, the push bytton switch, the door switch, the thermal cutoff switch, the thermostat, and the dryer cycling thermostat, they all tested o.k. Any thoughts on where to look next? Thank you, Ken Ads By Google Related Models Last edited by Kenshearer : 05-01-2010 at 10:22 AM. |

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for TEDX640 models | AppliancePartsPros.com Here is the wiring diagram http://www.servicematters.com/docs/w...%208576793.pdf As you can see from the wiring diagram the only thermal device in the motor/start circuit is the thermal fuse. This is the one on the blower, Item 23 in Section 3. When you checked it did you remove the wire from one side of it? This prevents you from reading an alternate/parallel circuit path. I think I would start by checking the power to the unit. It is not uncommon to loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker. Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times. Unplug he unit and measure the voltage at the plug L1 to L2 should be 240 volts L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts. If OK Check the wires at the unit's terminal strip to ensure they are properly connected and none of them have burned off If OK Plug the unit in and check the voltage at the terminal strip. This is just in case you have a bad line cord. Be careful 240 volts is lethal. If OK Check the motor windings for continuity.

Hi Denman,
THank you for your advice, I did recheck the thermal fuse again this time with the wire removed and it still tests o.k. That made so much sense though, I missed that. Now I am wondering about testing the breaker, when testing the outlet I plug my black lead into the L-shaped slot, and I get a 120v reading on the right side l-shaped and no reading on the left l-shaped side (while maintaining the black lead in the L-sheped slot). I think this is telling me that I only have 120v going to the dryer. Sorry I don't have any electronics background, just a great respect for electricity and 240V is deadly. Thank you, very, very much for your kind and helpful assistance. Ken |

Hi Denman,
You geve mem the key, I replaced the breaker. But that didn't fix it, I had checked the breaker box earlier, the one with the breaker level and two Buss fuses in it and both fuses appeared to be in perfect condition, no discoloration and circuits appear intact. I pulled them and tested and good continuity on one, none on the other. A new 30 amp fuse fixed the problem. Thank you again for you thoughtful and kind advice. Also thank you for taking your time to help me, I was at a loss until I received your words of direction and advice. Ken |
