Whirlpool Duet dryer

Model Number: GGW9200Lwo Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years

My dryer will not start. It turns on, but when you press the "hold to start" utton it just beeps and nothing happens. This began when my daughter put a large load of clothing from the washer into it that had not gone through the spin cycle - VERY WET. There was a burning smell as well. What is my problem?
