Default Gas dryer no heat
Model Number: ldg8424aae   Brand: Maytag   Age: More than 10 years

My gas dryer won't heat. Everything else works fine.Blah, Blah Blah. You've heard it before. We'll I jumped the gun and decided to just put a flame by the igniter bar to see if that got it going. Whoops. I touched the bar and zzzzzzz, fried it. So i need a new bar for sure. Since then, i've tested everything--there is 110 to the igniter bar, and continuity everywhere else.... but i'm not getting it at the coils around the solenoid: however when i disconnect and connect them during the cycle or slide it on or off, i hear the solenoid engage as it "grabs on". it just clicks once and that's it. It is VERY hot though, so i think that's the problem, but, like i said i hear it working, so i'm not positive.

Default check the fuse

This part probably blew out when you shorted the glowbara duct fuse.jpgIt is called a duct fuse for a reason. It mounts on the duct.

Smile fixed-not fuse

Wow, as of today, 77 views and only 1 brief reply. I was hoping for a bit more feedback. Anyway, i went my own direction and bought a new ignitor and two new coils. It turns out it was just the ignitor, it works fine with the old coils and the new ignitor. The old one must have been bad and i touched it and it reconnected then broke up. The fuse, as suggested is fine. Now I'll just vacuum up the inside, clean the vent be done. Hope this helps someone else.

Default Go ahead swap the coils while you are in there.

You needed a new glowbar because you broke it. The old coils while they may work initially will fail if they get hot. Since the dryer relys on constant work from these coils I would suggest you go ahead and put them on there. Unless you just like messing with cantankerous dryers.

Default ignitor was already dead

I had planned to replace the coils anyway, but I was reporting that it worked with just the ignitor changed. As I mentioned in the first post, the reason I had to diagnose the dryer in the first place was because it wasn't working---the ignitor was NOT working, I then physically broke it when I touched it and it re-established a connection.
