Model Number: 110-70942990 Brand: Kenmore Age: 5 - 10 years
My dryer will start just fine, but then for no reason it will just shut off, if you hit the start buttin again it starts right up, but lately it will only stay running for a few minutes before it shuts off. I replaced the timer when it first started doing it and it didn't help. Any ideas?

Most likely the problem is a bad thermistor (#42 on the diagram). You can check it by measuring its resistance. The normal reading at 70°F ambient temperature suppose to be about 11.9 KOhms.
- The thermistor Part number: AP3919451 Here is the Tech sheet. Gene.

Ok I tested it and it was 13.5 Kohms. Is that ok ? One other detail I forgot is the moisture sensor drying had stopped working long before the other problem started, I never tried to fix it because we just decided to use the timer instead. I didn't think this would matter much but I figured I should throw it out there.

So should I replace the thermister? I opened up the kick panel on the bottom of the dryer and now it seems to be working a lot better, the dryer is clean I usually open it up and clean it twice a year, that tells me it is heat related, does that support the bad thermister diagnosis? I'm not too worried about the auto moisture, maybe once I get the dryer working again then I'll try to fix the auto dry.

If it works fine without the kick panel but it does not with that panel in place, I would replace the thermistor.
