I got a used Maytag Performa dryer pwe2300ayw and plugged it in, and it was spinning but no heat. I could see that the heating coil was fried so I replaced the coil and the thermal fuse that sits on top of the coil and started the dryer. The heating coil came on and within seconds started sparking as if it was over heating. I opened the dryer door to shut it off, with the timer still clicking away, and in about 30 seconds the coil came on again with the door open! I unplugged the dryer, and on further inspection noticed that the previous owner had cut off and bypassed the smaller fuse on the side of the element. I asked the appliance store guy if replacing this little fuse would fix the problem and he said no. He told me that the dryer should run without that smaller fuse, and that there is a short circuit somewhere in the dryer. The part is only about $25 but I don't want to get it if it doesn't fix the problem. Help! Thanks, Barter731
