Default GE dryer starts without turning start switch
Model Number: DHDSR48EF2WW   Brand: GE   Age: 1 - 5 years

My GE dryer starts without turning the start switch. It automatically comes on when the timer is set. Could this be a start switch or timer related issue? Other than this problem, dryer seems to be working fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Default Points on start switch fried together

Most likey the start switch is bad. Remove one of the wires going to it and use precautions not to let it short against the cabinet. With a wire disconnected to this start switch, it should quit starting if that switch is the problem. I would replace the switch if that proves to be the case.

I want to make sure I have the same problem. The ON OFF switch has no affect. As soon as the Main control know comes off of top center, the dryer starts. It works fine otherwise. Model Nr. DGSR483EEOWW. Can someone confirm this? when I get a chance, I'll take the top off and disconnect one of the wires to the ON/OFF switch. Thanks.

Default Checking the start switch

To get the dryer going you must press start. If it does it all by it's lonesome and you suspect the contacts are fried on that switch then an easy way to find out is to remove one of the wires to the start switch. Make sure it won't short out. Plug the dryer back in and see if that stops the automatic starting of the dryer. If the contacts are fried you should replace the switch.
