Model Number: ALE866saw Brand: Amana Age: 5 - 10 years
I noticed a while back that it takes a while for my clothes to dry. The Automatic setting does not work as it shuts off before the clothes are dry. In a average load I now use the timer function. I set it to 70 min then I put it in for another 20-30 min. I tested it on automatic today and put a wet wash cloth in the dryer. On automatic it ran for 20-30 minutes then shut off. The wash cloth was about 50% dry.
A year ago I took the dryer apart and cleaned the inside and made sure that the vent pipe was clean. Nothing out of the ordinary to report. I also checked the resistance on the heater. I can not remember the readout but I remember that it was not shorted. Ads By Google Related Models |

Today I did a temp. test. I stuck a thermometor in the dryer near the lent trap. I ran on a timer setting on Fabric selector High, the temp ranged from 140-160. I did the same on Med and Low and got the same results. Is there suppose to be that much range in temp drop when on high? Is my fabric selector broke as it does nothing different on Med and Low? Can a Thermostatbe the issue responding to temps other than it was designed for? |

Get rid of the cycling thermostat heater (#11 on the diagram) and replace the cycling thermostat with the new thermostat with built in heater and four terminals. Connect the wires from the old thermostat heater to the smaller terminals on the new thermostat.
Check the blower wheel. Make sure it's not slipping on the motor shaft. - The cycling thermostat Part number: AP2402249 - The blower wheel Part number: AP4062362 Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for AMANA ALE866SAW Dryer - Ele | AppliancePartsPros.com Gene.

Any reason why I should not use Part Number: AP4053749 made by WHIRLPOOL I only ask because it is half the price. Enlarge Photo THERMOSTAT Part Number: AP4053749 made by WHIRLPOOL Enlarge Photo THERMOSTAT Part Number: AP4053749 made by WHIRLPOOL |

The thermostat Part number: AP4053749
requires the thermostat heater Part number: AP4070513 to be replaced as well. The price for these two parts is higher than price for the thermostat I've recommended. Gene.
