Default E1 Code
Model Number: GGW 9200   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

Started getting nuisance "E-1" codes on my Whirlpool Duet drier. The service paperwork (in the machine) indicates a bad door switch or replace the electronic control. Anyone had to deal with this? If I need a control, does anyone know where I can purchase?

Thanks very much!

Re-check the model number from the model and serial
tag on the machine. The one you have listed is incomplete.

Thanks

Thanks for the response. The complete model number is GGW9200LWO. I was going to remove the termistor to have a look and check its resistance (guess I could do that while it installed) though. Anyway in order to get to it I removed the filter housing. I found it over 50% blocked with lint! I now have a note to do that annually. I cleaned it up but the problem actually still exists. The machine works fine for a while but continues to develop the "E1" diagnostic on the readout. Once reset it can be restarted. I am assuming bad thermistor or bad board. Should I attempt to measure discharge air temperatures at different settings to see if temps are correct?

You can check the connections at the control, but
E-1 is almost always a bad thermistor, (an open one).
I have seen cases where a fault at the boards input
would cause a false E-1 error, but its rare. So I
would recommend replacing the thermistor.

Thanks so much...........I am 62 years old and have NEVER had a repairman in my house (but that is getting more difficult each year!)....I appreciate your eagerness to assist. I will get the part on order this evening. Lastly, I found a complete .pdf download for my Duet washer manual.....does anyone know where I might link to one for the drier?

Thanks again...........later yesterday the A/C died in my car.....my troubles usually occur in "threes" so wish me luck!!!

On Time And Under Budget!!

One more thank you; my dryer is now back in service. The problem was the termistor, exactly as you called it. It was a bit baffling at the beginning because the dryer still functioned; it would only quit after a half hours use. Tricky devices, those termistors! Lesson learned.
