Default Drum Access
Model Number: DBLR333ET0WW   Brand: GE   Age: More than 10 years

Dryer won't start, makes loud noise as if drum is stuck. I suspect belt or pully, but am having trouble accessing drum, can't open top of dryer. Is there another access from the back or am I missing something to remove top. Thank you for any help.

Open the door and see if you can turn the drum at all by
hand. If so then tape the door switch in the closed position.
Then hold the startup switch in the start position while
at the same time giving the drum a good spin by hand,
you might need two people to do this,
(Just watch your hand when you do this). If the unit starts
then chances are that the start winding is bad in the motor.
If you cant turn the motor then either the motor bearings
are locked up or there could be something stuck in the blower.

Thanks Glen, I tried what you said, the drum turned free counter clockwise, but not clockwise. The motor would "buzz" as if under load when I turned to Start. Drum didn't catch and start while turning counter clokwise. Motor stopped buzzing, (I only kept start switch on 3-4 seconds) but would buzz again after trying a few more times. I removed the small panel in the back and could see the motor and idler pully, belt is intact. I guess it may be the motor or bearings? Is the top of this model supposed to open like most others? I didn't want to force it and I don't see any screw holding it down. Thanks.

Any ideas? I see from your parts list that a motor is $135+ and a bearing kit is $35+, may not be wise to repair?
