My dryer will not turn on. When I press and hold the button, there is a humming noise as if the motor is grinding. When I continue to hold the button down, the grinding noise eventually stops. The tumbler is extremely hard to turn and will only turn in one direction. Any suggestions as to what could be the problem?

FYI: The thermostat and thermal fuse were both replaced in June of 2009

The only way to know is to get in there and look around for frozen wheels or broken belt or strings in the blower. I looked up the model number and yours is this maycor model made for kenmore. Nicknamed the Dott dryer. As you can see it is fairley easy to get into if you know the trick. Note the newer LG models are glorified Dott dryers. built on the same princible same motor same idler
