The wire connected to the heating element burned in two, I replaced wire and test ran dryer. The heating element glowed and dryer worked normal for a couple minutes then replaced wire began to get hot and then begin to smoke. Is this a short or faulty thermal limiter?

Here are your parts Replacement parts for FRIGIDAIRE DEILW4 Frg(v1) / 27 " Electric Dryer | AppliancePartsPros.comSounds like you may have a grounded element and it is pulling too many amps. The heater should be able to run on high without over heating the wires. I am assuming that you replaced the wire with the same or larger gauge of wire and that you cut back the wire till you got to nice clean copper.. Also did you check the connector going to the element if it is pitted or dirty or loose it will heat up when current passes through it. Sounds like you have a grounded element, the heating coil has sagged or broken and is touching the case/frame. Often you can see this by inspecting the heater assembly. Best way is to check it with a meter. Unplug the unit. Unplug both wires from the heating coil, should be around 10 ohms. Measure from each coil connector to the case/frame, both should be infinite ohms. |

Thanks, Your suggestion that the heating element was grounding out was correct, I took everything apart and found where element was against heat deflector, Put in new element and replaced cooked wire and she runs like a top. Again Thanks!
