Default Dryer Runs for 10 minutes then buzzes and quits
Model Number: ALG443RAC   Brand: Amana   Age: 5 - 10 years

I have an Amana gas dryer that I have been having trouble with. It started with pushing the timer switch to engage and it would buzz but not start. I had the timer apart a few times and would clean the copper contacts with sand paper and then reassemble. I was able to do this and keep the dryer working for almost 2 months. Finally it did not work anymore and I replaced the timer. Now the dryer will start on the timed cycle and run for between 10-20 minutes then it will buzz and quit. If I let it cool down I can restart it about 45 minutes later. I have already cleaned all the lint I can find out of the duct and the interior cabinet. Is it likely that the Cycling Thermostat needs replacement? I am afraid I do not have the know how or equipment to test this. I am just throwing parts at this to save buying a new $500 dryer. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Paul,

Most likely the problem is a bad motor. It's overheating and stops.

Replacing the motor should solve the problem.

- The part number for the motor is AP3452083

Here are the break down diagrams for the Amana dryer Model ALG443RAC

Gene.

P.S. The cycling thermostat operates with the heating part of the dryer only.
