Default Dryer won't tumble
Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

Help......

My husband decided to put some shoes in the dryer. It sounded horrible.

Now it won't "Tumble".

It will stay on and heat up but no movement..

Does he owe me a new dryer or can I fix it...

Default belt??

Well 'Yes' you should be able to fix it but shouldn't 'HE' be the one to fix it??? It sounds as tho either the belt slipped or actually broke... You didn't list a model number for this whirlpool... Most models can be taken apart by unplugging the unit and removing the two screws on top under the filter access door... Lift the top up and you will see the drum and a small in width-size black belt that goes around the drum... The belt may be broken and in pieces in the bottom of the dryer... Input your model number into the 'parts section' of this website and you should be able to see the breakdown for your dryer plus locate a replacement belt if needed... Good luck - I've seen some dryers that utilize a shelf that hooks just inside the door and suspends items like shoes inside the heated airstream but just stay on the shelf, no tumbling round and round...

Yup, one shoe jammed the drum and burnt the belt in two.

Replace the belt. You will be fine.

That part melted off the motor shaft, normally not a problem to use dryer without it.
