What are the reasons why this model does not heat. Is it only the thermostat or are there other reasons. Is there a repair manual I can use to do this myself or does this issue normally gets services by an authorized service repair company?

There are a few parts in the dryer involved in the heating circuit which have to be tested for continuity in order to diagnose the problem. This process in not to difficult to do it yourself, but you have to have a simple multimeter.
