Sounds very much like your motor is failing. The motor has overload protection, which shuts it down. After a while it will cool off, the switch will reset and you can operate it again.
Check to see that nothing is putting extra pressure on the motor, like bad rollers or the idler pulley, and if the drum turns freely you are probably looking at a motor replacement.
