Was enough to be dangerous........

New to the forum and looking for some help. Title says it all as I tried to fix the dryer myself and ended up worse than before fixing it.
Long story short, the plastic extension piece on the timer that the knob goes on was worn out (you would spin the knob and not set the timer.). So I thought that I could potentially replace that part. I take apart the timer but seeing that this mechanical piece cannot be replaced or fixed, I put it all back together and and even though the dryer works, it now is not heating.
Anyone have any clue?
Like I said, I know enough that I'm dangerous enough to get to this point........
