Kenmore model# 110.96374210 electric dryer. Motor had definitely gone out. It wouldn't turn the drum, and it would just growl at me. Dryer seemed to be working fine other than the motor squeeling a little just before it went out. I decided to by a kit that included drum rollers, belt, idler pulley, blower wheel, and of course a new motor. Installed these items, and everything worked great for about 10 min. then it shut off. Then it would start up again after about 3 min., and it just continues that same cycle of starting and stopping. Does anyone have any ideas?

I just took the drum, belt, and idler puller out, and turned it on. It ran for 45 min. without a problem(would not do that before).

Start the dryer and open the door while it's running. Would it stop? Close the door. Would it start without you pushing the start button? If both answers are "Yes" then the problem is a shorted Start switch. If the answer on the second question is "Yes" then the Start switch is the culprit. - The start switch Part number: AP3097490

Make sure the drum is in place and the belt goes properly around the motor shaft and idler pulley. The belt diagram bellow would help you. Gene.

Reassembled everything and I still have the same issue as before. Starting and stopping. Start button has long since stopped working. Dryer does stop when you open door though. So you feel that this would indicate a bad start switch then? Any ideas about why it might have run perfectly without the drum in it? Trust me im not questioning your opinion. Im just trying understand and learn a little bit. Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Quote:...Any ideas about why it might have run perfectly without the drum in it?... The motor runs without any load. The start switch should interrupt power to the motor start windings as soon as the motor got to a proper speed. If the switch shorted then it provides power to the motor start windings all the time, causing the motor to overheat. The motor overload protector turns the motor off until it cools down. Gene.

Switch has been replaced but still have same issue with stopping and starting. Did i get a faulty motor? Not sure where to go from here.
