I have a Whirlpool electric dryer (SEDS800MQO) that I have had since 2003. It is located in a sheltered outside area which is subjected to outside temperatures here in western Washington state. I do 3 loads of wash once a week. About a year ago, the dryer began to exhibit problems. When I start the dryer it will do 1 of 4 things. 1. Runs normally (usual result) 2. Starts but makes a whining sound for a few seconds, then runs normally (occasional) 3. Starts and makes a few loud thumps, then runs normally (occasional) 4. Drum does not turn, but can hear motor (seldom) (Note: 2,3,& 4 are more likely when it has been colder outside) This past summer I had the machine apart to clean lint. I did not see anything that looked broken so put it back together. We are now in our colder months and I am again getting the conditions noted above.
Because of the machine’s physical location, it is not a simple task to relocate it for disassembly, etc. So I would prefer to do it once.
Now finally to my question: If I replace the Dryer Belt, Idler Pulley, and Rear Drum Support Rollers – will that solve the conditions noted above? My Maytag DIY Repair Manual indicates that it should.
Is there anything else that might need replacing?
Thank you all for your time, ronjin
