Model Number: GEW9868KQ0 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years
Our dryer will continue running if we move it to a low heat setting which then takes a long time to dry anything, especially towels and jeans. If we attempt to move it to a higher temperature it turns itself off and displays E1. I have no idea what this error means or how to fix it. Help!

The "E1" error code means the thermistor (#42 on the bulkhead parts break down diagram) is open and has to be replaced.
- The part number for the thermistor is Part number: AP3919451 Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dryer Model GEW9868KQ0 Gene.

To all who are having this problem, you may not want to be so quick in buying a replacement thermistor. I had the exact same problem, and lived with it over a year. Finally the dryer was shutting off so often I opened it up to check it out (thanks gene for providing the diagram). I was most surprised at the lint accumulation, and spent a fair amount of time removing it (I don't think this had anything to do with the problem, and did it more for operating safety). I also checked resistance of the thermistor with the leads removed and it showed infinity ohms (open), which is consistent with the problem. Convinced I needed a new thermistor I buttoned the unit back up, planning to run on low heat until the part came in. I test ran the dryer and to my surprise it ran for over 30 minutes on the highest heat!
Curious to what happened, I reopened the unit and checked resistance on the thermistor again. This time it read on the order of 3K ohms, and the resistance increased as the unit cooled (this is good). So what happened here? I speculate there was oxidation on the thermistor terminals, which was removed on reinserting the leads. It must have been significant enough that even the meter leads did not pierce when I first checked. So you may want to try cleaning the therminstor terminals, and checking the resistance with an ohmmeter, before replacing. Of course it could also be an intermiitently good part; we'll see how long it stays good. |

i requested the ap3919451 as stated in this forum. the person on the other end said that it was in a kit so that is what i ordered. the kit turned out to have two thermostats for the heating element. i took the back off the dryer and found that a wire had come off of the ap3919451 thermistor. i had the original shipment sent 2nd day air but due to errors on both shipping and parts pickup, it took 9 days to receive the parts. lesson is remove the appliance back and check the unit first. murphy and the kiss principle got me again.............

to all of the good folks at Appliance Parts Pros. i intentionally did not mention who i purchased the parts from because your people had already done their best to correct the unfortunate issue of the parts not being shipped on time.
i have dealt with companies that fought to their death insisting that it was my, not their problem. your response has proven to me that your company is a refreshing breeze. i have already given one of my best friends you web address so he could order parts for his washer from you. the original reason for my message was to get others to LOOK FIRST before ordering parts. |

This is the same problem we have with our Senseon that is 10 years old. Is this part number the same for all Whirlpool Gold Senseon's? If not, can you tell me where to find the model number on the dryer so I can order the part from you?
Thanks |
