Model Number: LDG4910 Brand: Maytag Age: More than 10 years
The Maytag LDG4910 gas clothes dryer in our house has been making some very loud noises (almost sounds like someone drumming a tin drum) while tumbling, but somehow it doesn't stop it from tumbling. I've read a little bit about this online and it seems like it could either be a loose/ripped belt or a worn out bearing. I've included a video clip documenting the sound (ill lit garage, sorry): YouTube - P1040532 I'm new to repairing electric appliances of this scale, and was wondering if it is something that I could tackle by myself (without professional assistance). I haven't opened up and looked inside our dryer yet, but looking at the diagrams it seems to be something I'd like to try to handle. I was wondering if there would be enough information I can find here for me to try and repair it myself. Any advice on this and the diagnostic for the noise will be greatly appreciated!

Here is the parts breakdown
Replacement parts for MAYTAG LDG4910 | AppliancePartsPros.com Here is a manual although it is not for your specific unit many of the parts will be similar. http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/16008714.pdf Sounds more to me like the blower wheel has come lose or something has dropped into the blower. Another high possibility is the rear drum rollers, they can get a flat spot, though this is usually more of a thumping sound. Also check that something is not wedged between the drum and the frame. Bearings usually squeal and squeak. While you have it open I would check the rear rollers, the belt, the idler wheel, the front glides and the drum seals for slop and wear. Replace as necessary. Give the interior a good cleaning including the blower wheel. I would also check/clean the vent system. Basically an overhaul.
