I am currently in possession of an AMANA electric dryer that I bought knowing it needed a new motor due to worn out bearings. I ordered a replacement motor from a supplier on flea bay. The motor removed has the following markings-p/n 40099801 and model S 58NXMZD6910 and the shaft turns CCW as viewed from the blower wheel end. The motor I rec'd has the following markings p/n W10396029 and model S58VMZK6925. The main problem is the newer motor turns the opposite rotation which is CW and will not work. Has any reader tried successfully to rewire the direction of rotation one of these motors ? Is it practical to do this ?

I do not think this would be practical. Unlike a washer motor that uses a capacitor to start and run allowing for bidirectional use, dryer motors work from a high and low set of windings. When the motor gets up to rpm the centrifugal switch disconnects the low side. These motors in my opinion are designed to run only one direction.

If you were to try and reverse the power flow you would have to rewire both high and low windings, then hope the centrifugal switch would transfer to the proper side.

Thats my 2 cents

Thanks.
It sounds like it would be very difficult and not worth the effort.
