Default Dryer sometimes starts then also stops
Model Number: LGR3624EQ0   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

I have a Whirlpool dryer and is doing a funny thing. What is doing is it works for a while and then just stops if I give it about two months rest it will start working again. But then after a couple of uses, in the middle of use, it would just stop working. Of course, I canít be sure of two months is the exact time. Right now if I try to start the dryer with the button on top, what it does is make a loud clink like itís trying to start, but nothing happens. Could someone suggest something or troubleshooting steps? Thanks

Quick guess? Motor is bad. You said 2 months rest, I hope you meant 2 minutes or 2 hours.
Here's a test to do when it stops or won't start. If it has just stopped wait 30 minutes for cool down.
1) set the timer on any cycle.
2) Open the door and hold the door switch in so the machine would think the door is closed.
3) Push start. If its humming or not trying to turn to push the drum around a little and see if it begins to turn on it's own. I think it turns clockwise when running.

No, I actually mean months each time this has happened I've left alone for a couple of months and it restarted. Sorry for the confusion. I will gladly replace the motor. That is if I can find the part number and perhaps a video like the one that helped me fix the matching washing machine. I just went to it and now it decides to run again. I'm glad you showed me one point in that test even though I can't run the full test right now. Every time I press the button it starts. What I did is hold the door open and start it. It seems to start a little weak but then runs. Does that help diagnose anything? Thanks

If it still runs I'd let it go until it stops starting. However if it is having a hard time starting or you have to boost the drum to get it to start then that is probably the motor. But the actual start switch is also a possibility if it does nothing when you push start.

Yes. I remember it does nothing when pressed after it stops. I said clink is the sound it makes but I guess is just an electric sound. It's funny because that was the problem with the matching washing machine the switch was bad. Thanks

So I tried the test you recommended. I could not push clockwise but could counterclockwise, does that mean it definitely spins counterclockwise? So while I was pushing it I got a hum like something was trying to start. Then, after a few tries that just gave up and I was left with only the clicking noise the switch seems to make. Does this give any clues? Thanks
