Gas Dryer Not Fully Heating
Model Number: HE3t Brand:
5 - 10 years
I am trying to diagnose the problem with the HE3t gas Dryer. The problem is it does not get as hot as a dryer normally does and the clothes are not dry at the end of the cycle. Gas is coming on and ignition happens and it burns for 30sec to a minute, then repeats. Someone suggested that I try running it with the vent hose disconnected, so I did and the dryer works fine when the vent hose is off. Flame times goes up to 3-4 mins per time, and the clothes get hot and dry, dampness sensor appears to work all is good (except the dryer is not vented).
Seemed simple, clogged vent line, but I don't think that is it. I cleaned out the vent pipe with a brush set with flexible wands. It was pretty clean. I put the exhaust of my shop vac into the dryer vent too and it blows thru just fine. But this all makes no difference with the dryer, it still does not heat/dry with the vent connected. The hard vent pipe is only 8' long with 2 90 deg elbows, so its not that long a run.
One thing I noticed when pulling the vent hose off, the air stream coming out of the back of the dryer when it runs is pretty feeble. The blower blades seem OK, so I am wondering if it may be that the drum bearings/rollers are getting tight and putting a drag on the motor? Or maybe the motor is failing?
Any suggestions for what else it might be, and how to test.
