does the fan turn off and if so is it right or left hand thread

Wihtout a model number I cannot say for certain what you are dealing with but I assume you have a basic Kenmore/Whirlpool dryer. Your model probably does not tear down the way it shows in this manual, but your blower is left hand threaded and the part of this manual which shows you how to remove it should be relevant. To make sure, the direction to turn should be embossed on the blower.
