The selector dial that allows me to select high/low/timed cycle doesn't count down and turn the dryer off.

I can turn it freely and select Low Heat and Very Dry setting and the dryer runs and heats and drys the clothes.. but the dial doesn't count down and shut the dryer off.

It would be relatively easy to replace the selector dial mechanism but I'm not sure there's nothing else going on behind this...

Any help would be appreciated.
