weird one on me. My electric dryer runs ok and shuts off fine when cycle is done, but the timer keeps running even if the dryer is not running, even if the door is open. Also, sometimes it does not go into cool down mode and the cloths get real hot. I replaced the timer as I figured that was the problem, but it still happens. I have to pull the main power to the dryer after each use so the timer shuts off. Any ideas?:confused:

OOPS!!
I just noticed the corrected model number so I will go hunting for a wiring diagram.
Has this unit worked properly for you in the past or is it new to you?
If new then someone may have messed with the wiring.
Also does it do this in both timed dry and auto cycles? |

we have had the dryer since it was new. No one has messed with the wiring. We only use it in timed dry, so I don't know about the other cycles.

Do you have a wiring diagram?
I cannot find one and without it I am in the dark.
With luck someone else will jump in who has the diagram and/or experience with this model. |

Either your heater coil is grounded or the motor switch contacts for the heat circuit are stuck closed.

Somehow you are getting Neutral to the timer when at the End of Cycle timer position.
You may have a grounded element.
Unplug the unit and both wires from the heating coil.
Measure across the coil. Should be around 8 to 12 ohms.
Then measure from each side of the coil to it's case or Neutral.
Both should be infinite ohms.
If not the element is grounded and should be replaced.
Another possibility is that the motor's centrifugal heater switch 2M to 1M is always closed.
The circuit would be L2 , Motor switch 2M to 1M , Heater , Resistor , Timer Switch OR to TM , Timer Motor , L1
You could check this by unplugging the unit and disconnecting the OR wire at the timer. Be sure to tape it up so it cannot short to anything else.
Then give it a try to see if the timer stops.
This may be a jiggery pokery fix but auto will not work as the timer will not advance.
Note on this unit:
In timed dry the timer motor completes the circuit back to Neutral. L1 , Timer Motor , Timer Switch 0 (TM to WB) , Door Switch D to D1) , Neutral
In auto it gets power through the heater ( see above for the circuit path)when it is off and the resistor drops the voltage down to 120 from the 220.
When in off the timed/auto switch (Timer Switch 0) is in the auto (OR to TM position). At least if the timer chart is correct.
Other than the above all I can think of is that there is a short to ground/Neutral in the wiring. |
