Dryer starts heating, stops heating 2 minutes in, still turns, then starts heating again, only to stop heating again a minute later.

I've:
Cleaned lint and disconnected hose. Problem persists.
Changed coils - didn't help.
Check continuity on thermostat ( removed from machine) - fine 0 ohmns

Checked both things by the ignitor for continuity and they were fine also.

The only thing I have not checked is the plug looking thing on the left side of the ignitor tube.

Any ideas? Thanks

Hi.

All dryers are designed to cycle the heat on and off. Heat stays on for about 2 minutes and off for about 1 minute. The less moisture left in the clothing the shorter is "heat on" cycle. Sorry, it's not clear from your post if the flame comes back on? Does your clothing takes much longer to dry lately?

Thank you.

Simon.

The clothes now come out damp. The flame comes back on after a few minutes but then dies again.

Hi.

If the heat comes on after a FEW minutes not after one minute as it suppose to (with wet clothes inside), the problem is most likely restricted air flow. Remove the vent from the dryer, check the air flow and see if that makes any difference. Next unplug the dryer, remove the kick and front panels, remove the air duct assembly, vacuum and brush the duct and also the air filter housing. Then remove the blower wheel housing cover and vacuum the compartment. Check if the blower wheel doesn't have any play on the motor shaft.

Here are the parts breakdown and diagrams for Maytag dryer:

Model SDG405DAWW

Thanks

Simon.
