Bearing assembly fried after replacing heating element

Good day. I'm just wondering what might have gone wrong with my repair. I replaced the heating element in my dryer, (stacking washer dryer set), and when I turned the power back on, there was a poof, the breaker tripped, the new element broke, and the plastic cup that holds the bearing assembly fried/melted. The short was bad enough that top of the drum housing was scorched.:eek: I saw that another fellow replaced his bearing assembly at the same time but I just replaced this one a year ago. I'd appreciate any input as I'm wondering what may have happened. Thanks, Dave. p.s. apparently this stacking washer dryer was bought at a used appliance dealer and the dealer replaced the brand with his name and the model was conveniently ripped off. superdavet attached the following image(s):
