We bought an old portable washer and dryer about a week ago. It was a great deal, so thought we would take a chance. I have done some basic electrical work replacing plugs, simple wiring. Haven't worked on a dryer before, so this is pretty new to me. They are 2 separate units, not combined on the same power cord as a lot of the newer compact sets. The dryer is at least 10 yrs old and didn't really cost much at all. Not worth throwing a lot of money at, but if we can do something simple to fix it will give it a go. Details: Model: Kenmore 11089722991 - http://www.********************...722991/0582/0151200.htmlType: Portable compact unit, connects to standard 110v outlet power cord wire:( UL ) VW-1 E47523 SJT 14/3 105°C FT1,FT2 LL26332 OEM power cord replacement: kenmore / whirlpool part # 279440Issue: The dryer worked fine the 1st few times. When I went to use it yesterday, it wouldn't start up. When plugged in, there are no sounds coming from the dryer at all. Pushing the start button does nothing. Turning the dial to the off position does not make the buzzer go. The unit does not have a light or anything, so no way to see if it's getting power at all. Things checked:
The wall outlet is working fine. No breakers have been tripped, other appliances work fine in that same outlet. Tried another outlet, same issue Checked the power cable, and noticed a break in the cable casing right at the plug. Looks like a heavy flex point from being plugged in and out over time. The brass plugs on it also seem to wiggle a bit, so suspect it may be a bad plug causing the problem. Thinking of replacing the plug end with something like these. I've used them on other appliances not sure if they can handle the load / heat the dryer puts out. I've taken photos of the plug end as well as some of the connections inside the the dryer itself: If you look at the plug end, you'll see what I mean. Betting there's a break inside now.
The flimsy plug:
some of the connections in the dryer. They seem to be pretty solid, nothing seems loose.
