Hello all. I have an issue with my dryer and I figured it couldn't hurt to ask for input. I have a Westinghouse dryer, probably at least 10-11 years old. I cannot remember exactly when I bought it.
Anyways, I noticed a couple weeks back that it while running it would start to make a buzz/humming noise that would get louder and louder. I looked and the drum would still spin, but it was spinning much slower than normal. It also felt incredibly hot. I took the unit apart, cleaned out everywhere possible, cleaned out the exhaust tube all the way outside and put it back together and it seemed to be ok for maybe a week.
Now, I *think* it is a matter of the motor going bad. My theory is that the motor is going out and once the dryer runs for a bit it simply starts to struggle. It starts up just fine, but within 10 minutes it is loud and tumbling slowly. So my thinking is that the motor is about dead and since the motor won't spin the drum correctly, it doesn't get the fan turning enough leading to the extra high heat in the dryer when I checked it.
Has anyone else had this problem? I see lots of people where the motor doesn't start at all or the drum wont spin at all, but can't find where it starts out fine and then gets loud and slow within 10 -15 minutes.
Does a bad motor sound like the right place to start?
