When installing new Drum Rollers on a Maytag Dryer, is a lubricant required on the shaft ?

No but I usually put a drop of oil on the shaft and then spin the roller to work it in.
Any oil will collect lint etc. so one drop is plenty.
Use 3 in one or sewing machine oil.
Do not use WD40.
