Model Number: LDE8704ACM Brand: Maytag Age: More than 10 years
After 12 years, our dyer is showing signs of wear. Should I try to repair?
It is making a lot of noise, both right when it starts up, but also while tumbling. I read somewhere (but now can not find again) posts that said the blower fan is likely the culprit. I am comfortable doing this repair, but fear there may be more. Since I will have the drum removed, I figured I should also replace the support rollers in the rear, too. Do I need to replace the support roller shafts? Belt and pully seem fine, but I am not sure what I shoud be looking for, either. So far I am up to about $50 in parts - not sure if I would want to go much further, but what else would the experts recommend? Thanks!! Related Models |

This is a very good dryer. Well worth a little TLC. No need to replace those rollers. You should oil them though. I use Zoomspout oil. It is a temp resistance non flammable, slow disapating HVAC oil used for a variety of applications from furnace blowers to you name it. $2 at any ace hardware store. On these dryers the most obvious thing is a loose blower wheel. This takes longer for the clothes to dry.

Parts arrived in one day! Blower wheel was certainly stripped - had been wobbling and marred the sides of the chamber.
I will also replace the rollers as they seem thin and hardened - might as well since I have the dryer taken apart today. Unfortunately, I didn't notice which way the wheel was on the roller spindle - does it matter? (One side seems to have a slightly different shape and has four posts...) Also should I try to oil the motor itself, if so, where would I use my zoomspout?? Thanks! |

The rollers go on either way; oil the rollers and the idler with your zoomspout, besure you clear out the lint from around the filter housing. I get any loose change you find!
