old timer just turned and wouldn't set where I wanted it to. not able to set timer and start the dryer. replaced timer and it started but smelt like it was getting hot. only ran it for a few seconds.

washed towels, put them in the dryer and went to set the new timer. it was exhibiting the exact same anomaly just like the old one and would not set. dryer will not start again.

is there a component that can go bad that will mess up the timer like this? it is brand new out of the box.

thanks,
Gary
