Hi;
I have a Kenmore gas dryer (MN 417.93142300), about 10yrs old
Recently, it started making a loud humming (60Hz) noise while running.
I removed the front and top panels, and cleaned everything thoroughly. I checked for loose parts, etc and did not find anything.

I do suspect that the motor is going bad. I have had experience in the past with AC motors, and they do make this loud 60Hz noise when one of the coils is bad. The motor still spins the drum, but I am wondering how long this can last before it will simply die.

After the dryer finished a cycle, I unplugged it and opened the rear access panel to put my hand on the motor housing. It was very hot to the touch - too hot to hold my hand on - but before I order a new motor, I want to actually remove the old one and take a look at it. Are there any bolts holding the motor together that could have come loose to cause this humming, or is it what I suspect - a bad winding.

Thanks for your input
