Burnt wire while replacing dryer heating element

My whirlpool dryer won't heat. I bought a heating element on appliancepartspro.com to replace a broken heating element on my whirlpool dryer.
After replacing the part, the dryer was heating. However, there was a burning smell and it most likely was the new coil.
I undid the back panel and checked all was good. However, when I was putting it back I forgot (cannot believe I did that) to connect the wires back to the heating element.
I believe one of the loose wire was touching the backpanel and it burnt out leaving black residue.
Now the dryer won't come on. Do I just need a new wire or do I need to do the multimeter troubleshooting all over again? If I do, what am I checking for? Thanks.
