Hello, I have a 9 year old Maytag Neptune Dryer MDE5500AYW that has started screeching. I wouldn't call it a squeak. It is a very loud, mid to high pitch sound that continues for awhile, then quiets down but it eventually starts again. The dryer runs and dries clothes, but I need to fix this. If there is a way I can post audio or video to help with diagnosis, let me know how to upload it. I only see a way to add still photos.

thank you

Here are your parts
Parts for Maytag MDE5500AYW Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is a link to a service manual.

You will have to join the site and be logged in to be able to download the manual.

Could be a number of things.

First run your finders between the drum ends and the frame to check if something is jammed in between them, bra wires are famous for this. Be careful in case the object is sharp.

Try to locate the area where the screech is coming from.
Often this is not possible.

Next you will have to open the unit up and check the following parts for wear slop etc.
Also check that the belt is OK, you might as well replace it if it is cracked etc.. The interior seals should also be checked.
Give the interior a good cleaning including the blower wheel.
I would also check/clean the vent system while you are at it.

Possible causes:
Front bearing supports (item 30 in section 06)
Rear support wheels (item 24 in section 06)
Idler wheel (item 25 in section 05)
Motor bearings
Something stuck in the blower wheel or a loose blower wheel.

Try the below.
http://appliancejunk.com...ownloads;sa=view;down=67

Looks like when I hit copy all that was copied was the download icon.

Just to be sure that you get it.
If the above link does not work.
Go to the Manuals section.
Then to Dryer Service Manuals.
Then to page 3.
The manual you want is 16023110
