I have an older model Maytag dryer. I have a couple of problems. First sometimes the dryer does great and heats up but sometimes it does not heat up. Second sometimes the the dryer won't cut off , just keeps running. Can someone help. I'm hoping maybe I just need a new switch but I'm not sure.

Intermittent problems are very difficult even if we are present at the machine.

I suggest you start by checking the heating element and see if it is sagging or has a break in it. The other issues can be in your timer, start switch or wiring.
