My dryer is 12 yrs old and I took it apart to clean and replace the belt. After putting it back together and turned it on the breaker blew. I turned the heat off and the motor and drum work fine but after turning on the element again the breaker blew. I followed the wiring diagram and even took a picture of all the connections so I would not get any of them confused. I ran a continuety test on all systems and only thing I found was the thermal fuse was blown due to the short that blew the breaker. Agian after replacing the thermal fuse, I blew it again by trying to run the dryer. Any ideas? Thanks!

Could be that the heating element may have moved/sagged and is touching the case. Could be that it broke and is now shorting to the case.

Unplug the unit.
Remove the wires from the heating element.
Measure the element usually around 10 ohms.
Then measure from each terminal to the case/frame both should be open (infinite ohms)
