Default Dryer, Natural Gas smell
Model Number: PYG3200AWW   Brand: Maytag   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

I have a Maytag Gas Dryer model # PYG3200AWW.
It smells like Natural Gas only when the dryer is on and only when I open the dryer door and take a sniff. All the clothes now smell like Natural Gas.
I've checked the flex line from the wall shut off valve to the dryer and found no leaks.
I opened the front and the glow ignitor works and I hear two clicks before there is a flame.
Any ideas?

If your gas line leading up to the unit has no leaks check your venting for proper ventilation out of the unit making sure your venting is good exiting the house...... if venting is good replace the burner assembly with burner valve, coils and ignitor already in it, it comes as a kit.

Thanks for the reply. Here's an update to the situation.
I've recently enclosed the laundry area which includes the HVAC and Gas water heater in the same room. I had the AC running and the door to the room closed. That's when I smelled Natural Gas when I opened the dryer after it had been running.
I then opened the door to the room and ran the dryer again to see if it still smelled and it didn't smell anymore. It appears that the Air Conditioner is causing such a negative pressure in the closed room that it's slowing down the air flow through the dryer, which is causing the fuel to not completely burn.
I think I'll need to add a vent to stabilize the pressure between the utilities room and the rest of the basement.
Does this sound right? Have you seen this situation before?

Thanks!

Yeah you have to have really good fresh air venting into that room and proper exhaust venting out of the house as well......Also if your water heater is near your dryer in the same room you're going to have issues with the fine mesh filter on the bottom of the water heater clogging up and putting out your flame on your water heater while it's on....i get calls for that happening because of the proximity and the excessive lint.....make sure your ducting for your dryer is really good and tight leaving this room to avoid that happening.
