Default Whirlpool Dryer Timer Fails to Advance. Heat? Well, sometimes.
Model Number: LGB6200KQ1   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
The timer on my 6 year old Dryer is failing to advance. I'm thinking it is just the timer. But the symptoms came on slowly and strangly.

First the Sensor Drying started failing to advance ... most of the time. But the Timed drying worked.

Then about a week later the Timed drying started to fail too.

Then we noticed that sometimes we had heated air flowing through the dryer and sometimes we only had cool air flowing through. I've yet to see any consistency with that problem. I can start it have have no heat. Open the door to stop it. Come back 10 minutes later, close the door, push the start button, and then have heat. Open the door again. Come back 10 minutes later, close the door, start it again, and this time have no heat.... or maybe it will have heat. ??? It's all the doings of gremlins, I tell ya.

Does this all sound like a Timer problem to you or is it something else? Or is it multiple failures?

It's model LGB6200KQ1. Here is the parts list is:

Thank you.

Most likely the problem caused by the coils (#13 & 14 on the burner break down diagram) on the gas valve. They are not stable and do not always holding the gas valve open.

- The part number for the set of the coils is AP3094251

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dryer Model LGB6200KQ1

Hi Gene,
You're the best! I replaced the two coils as you suggested and everything works.
Thank you!

Default Dryer Heating Issues

HELP I'm having the same problem with my Whirlpool Model #LGR4634EQ3 Serial #MJ4970766 would it be the same part number to replace? I also had a great deal of lint in my dryer which I've removed could that also cause the same problem?

My Whirlpool has a very similar problem. Sensor Drying Timer does not advance. On timed program, the timer works. However, the heat comes up only in the beginning. When the heat reaches certain temperature, it shuts off the heat by design, I guess. However, the heat does not come back up again.
I tested the 4 sensors/thermostats on continuity (ohms) at the back. They seem fine.
To me, it seems to be two problems:
1. timer
2. a sensor/thermostat malfunctions which fails to send signal to ?? to restart the heat.

Based on Gene's suggestion, replacing 13 & 14 will work. Would it actually work on my case. I really hate to spend $50 to purchase and it still does not work. Any change the items can be returned.

Any comments appreciated.

What is the complete model number of the dryer?

Most likely the problem is a bad gas valve coils (#13 & #14 on the diagram) and this is very common situation. You can order the kit from Appliance Parts Pros for only $14.53 and with their very friendly return policy you have 45 days to return any part.

- The coil kit Part number: AP3094251

Part number: AP3094251
