Model Number: MDE4000AYW Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years
I have a MAYTAG MDE4000AYW Dryer - Ele
It will not heat I have downloaded the service manual and wiring diagram and schematics from the post on this forum dedicated to my dryer The heating element was not an open circuit The high limit thermostat was not an open circuit The regulating thermostat was not an open circuit Now here is where I start to get in over my head a lil I thought it was the temperature selection switch was the problem as when I tested for continuity(meter set to 200 ohms) between where the white white terminal and the rest of the wire terminals while sliding the switch between the positions on the switch, I got no readings. So I assumed(always gets me in trouble) that it was the source of the non heating problem. I took this switch to the appliance parts house near me and the man there could not get continuity either but he did not have the replacement there to test against to compare readings to judge whether or not the temperature select switch is the problem child. He told me he would have to order it and then I wouldn't be able to test it before I bought it... He also then told me he thought it was probably the timer switch as thats what he sells the most of for this model when it is a heating issue. So now I am here asking questions after lurking for a few days trying to get it done with out troubling you nice folks So I am now at your mercy Thanks in advance for any and all help or suggestions Ads By Google Related Models |

Sometimes if you is real carefull you can file down the arced points inside the timer.
Here is a burnt contact: Sometimes you can file that contact down and go some more. This one looks fileable. I have seen em burnt slap up nothing left to file down. |

OK so I popped the timer open and there is one point that is burnt a fair lil amount on the leading contact edge I will hunt down my points files and give it a shot.
Now having said that I was unaware that when I pulled on the cover of the timer after unscrewing it that I would pull a cam lobe assembly out with it I didnt see the tiny retaining clip holding the plate to the shaft of the cam assembly .. If I would have known I would have witness marked the flat edge of the shaft to the plate to mark its position so I could get the cams back into the case in the proper location... Is there a certain way it must go back in?.. how to you get it set to the default off position.. will I be able to drop it in and rotate it until the cams and not engaging the copper points bars? |

You gotta remove the retainer clip from the shaft and position the cam inside then ease the plate back over. The clip does not need to be on there it is just a mechanic stopper.
You gotta ask yourself how do they do it at the factory? That retainer is the last thang on to prevent tampering. Now would we tamper? Last edited by SublimeMasterJW : 10-05-2009 at 05:19 PM. |
