LG Washer trying to turn stator getting hot
Model Number: wm2277 Brand:
Less than 1 year
Found rotor assembly trying to turn and vibrating, causing the stator to get hot. I dis-assembled the rotor and stator stator checked out on all windings to 7.5 ohms (good). assumed it was the hall sensor. ordered sensor and found no change. Looking at the rotor assembly I found the teeth were a little worn but didn't think it was bad.. Was I wrong.....I ran diagnostics and found all the correct voltages, and the drummed turned smoothly by hand.. I fixed on the rotor assembly and noticed the plastic shaft bearing on the rotor looked a little oblong. I put my micrometer on it and it was different side to side to side. I noticed wear on the shaft bearing where the bolt and washr tightened on the shaft.. I then measured the teeth and on close inspection found several missing.. Ahha..... Replaced the rotor and unit is now up and running..
The conclusion... The bolt on the bearing shaft was loose enough it was not drawing the lock washer flat.. It would spin and wobble and it started eating the plastic teeth.. It was also supposed to have lock tight on the bolt. "It didn't". It does now.. Unit is up and running..
