Model Number: MDG2500BWW Brand: Maytag Age: 1 - 5 years
Maytag Dryer MDG2500BWW shuts down on Timing Setting, but it keeps running on the Automatic Setting--and does not shut off. I changed the Timer today (Part 330016320) --and the same result: shuts down on regular Timing Setting--but still no change on Automatic Setting as it keeps running.
Does the Timer control the Automatic Setting--or is it controlled by another part? Thank you for your help. Robert W Thomas Ads By Google Related Models |

The sensor judges dampness inside the drum, and powers up the timer motor when the clothes are dry. Fabric softener can pile up on the sensors and make the dang thang think the clothes is still wet. Find the sensors below the filter inside the drum and clean em up.

JW:
Thanks so much for trying to help me. I removed the lint screen and I have to assume the Moisture Sensor behind it was what held the lint/debris which was caked on. I cleaned it and used alcohol as you suggested. Unfortunately, I set it on Automatic and it still will not shut off even with the brand new Timer. Is this where the Moisture Sensor is located? It is a curved white plastic behind the lint screen. Again, JW, my wife and I thank you for your advice and counsel. Robert W. Thomas |

Look at the wiring diagram. The control thermostat(cycling thermostat) has a orange wire going up to the timer motor, it must be malfunctioning, I would replace it.

I realize this is an electric dryer but it clearly shows the location of the cycling thermostat on a maytag dryer:

I am having the same issues with this dryer. I have tested the Cycling Thermostat for continuity and it shows closed across the outer 2 poles. I was wondering what should be happening and how do you test the other 3 poles on the top of the thermostat?

Warm it up using a simple torch. When you hear the click test for continuity.
