Default Whirlpool Duet dryer has power, no works.
Model Number: GGW9200LW0   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

The unit was in running a standard cycle today and the kids told me they heard a high pitched screech, but before I could get off my meeting and upstairs it was gone. The unit was still running, but there was a noticeable (not overpowering) burning smell. The best I could describe it was about the same smell as a belt issue on a vacuum cleaner.

I turned the unit off and unplugged it, then used the vacuum cleaner to clean it of lint and dust. After cleaning everywhere I could reach, including the blower I tried to start it up. The unit would stay at Sense and not spin the drum. My wife told me this was unusual, yah, I don't use it.

A quick spin around the web and to this site, I checked the Thermal Fuse and it has continuity and if I gently spin the blower the drum will spin. The unit has power when I open the door and I recently (within last 1-2 yrs) replaced the Igniter.

What is my next step here? Of course, getting pressure to fix it since I have 5 kids.

Thanks,

Jason

I just finished testing the Thermister as well... if my multi-metering skills have not failed me it was a little over 13000 ohms. If that helps at all.

Hi Jason,

Does the motor run?

Did you check the belt?

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Parts for Whirlpool GGW9200LW0 Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.com

I found a YouTube video that went through various dryer sounds and problem parts associated to that sound. I asked my kids to pick out the sound they heard and then played the video again to verify. They said it was the pulley sound they heard.

That said, when I power on the dryer and push start from the panel, nothing happens. It just indicates Sensing, no drum spin, nothing else going on.

I did not disassemble the entire dryer, but did visually inspect the belt (from what I can see) and does not appear to be broken.

If I gently turn the blower wheel the drum does turn; I am guessing this would mean that the rollers are good as well.

Opening the dryer door turns the interior light on, closing it turns it off.

Is there an easy way for me to get the idler pulley out without disassembling the entire dryer?

The motor is behind the air duct assembly, is there an easy way to remove just that part and get at the motor. What tests can I do on it, either physical or electrical? The unit is unplugged, is there a residual charge in the motor? It has been off for a day now, so I am guessing no, but more so after it has been plugged in and then unplugged, do I need to wait a certain amount of time before it is safe?

Thanks!

Hi Jason,

You have to check the belt switch and the motor as described in the attached tech sheet. It is impossible to do it without disassembly the dryer. The instructions are attached to the post. You also will need a simple multimeter like the following: Part number: AP5641751

Part number: AP5641751

I am unsure on how to know if the belt switch is bad or the motor, as far as meter test values go. Perhaps I just missed them. Do you know what the values should be?

I am guessing that the idler pulley would not be the cause of my problem here or the door switch?

Thanks so much for you valuable time.

Have you read the attached tech sheet? Pages 5 & 6?

The problem you described has nothing to do with the idler pulley.

Please read all attachments carefully before you post any additional questions.

Gene.

Once again Gene thank you for your valuable time!

I did read all of the documents you provided and re-read them tonight. I did miss some of the information I was looking for in my rush first reading. I will be working on the dryer tomorrow, so I will let you know what I find out.

Thanks again.
