I have an ooold Maytag 67c dryer that has developed an odd problem. At first, I thought that one of the belts had broken. I had a new set on hand, so I pulled the back and discovered the belts were not broken. Slack had developed and the drum would not turn. I pulled both old belts and replaced with the new ones, only to be presented with the same problem. The tension spring pulls the smaller belt tight, but slack remains in the larger belt. The motor mount is solid as is the drum. No wobble or play anywhere. The tennsioning assembly moves freely in it's raceway. I checked with Maytag to be sure the belts were correct, and they are.
Any i ea what has happened here?
Am I going to have to start trying longer and shorter belts until I find the right combination?
