Question Which motor is which?
Model Number: MDG9206AWW   Brand: Maytag   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

From what I've read here (and many other sites) I need a new motor in my Maytag Gas Dryer MDG9206AWW. Buzzes/hums but doesn't tumble...burnt smell if I hold the start button. There seems to be many motors available for this model. How do I know which motor to buy? I'm nervous about taking the entire dryer apart/putting it back and causing more damage trying to get any identification from the old motor. First time replacing a motor!

Hi

The motor you are looking for is

Part number: 33002478

Part number: 33002478

But before replacing it check if the blower wheel is not jammed, causing all the problems.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and 06-Motor Drive parts for Maytag MDG9206AWW - AppliancePartsPros.com

Post the results.

Simon.

Default Loose gasket/seal

I'm not sure how to get to the blower wheel, my set up is a little different than the diagram. I do see a rubber gasket hanging from what seems to be the housing blower but I can't tell how it should be sitting.

Did you open the front panel and remove the bulkhead to get to the blower housing?
What do you mean by your set up is a little different? It's the same model number isn't it?

Default Found it

It is the same model thought maybe a difference between serial no.? The large plastic part connecting the lint trap to the blower wheel isn't named in the diagrams and couldn't find any screws or a way to remove it. That's where the gasket was hanging from, the plastic part and where it meets the blower. I got my fingers in the blower wheel after I moved the seal and it did seem stuck for a second then moved and turned the drum.

Take the belt off the motor pulley and turn the blower.
If the motor turns easily - replace it.

Default Blower wheel jammed

Alright, since it's not the motor what do I do to make sure the blower wheel doesn't jam?

What made you decide that it's not the motor?
